Metrics details. Gynodioecy, a sexual system with hermaphrodite and female individuals in a population, raises the question how the two sexual morphs are maintained. Salvia pratensis is a gynodioecious species featured by its modified stamens that act as a lever mechanism in pollination. Given sexual dimorphism in floral traits of the species, it is predictable that two sexual morphs differ in their interplay with pollinators and thus in their fitness.
Effect of Salvia haematodes on sexual behaviour of male rats
The effect of an ethanolic extract of Salvia haematodes roots was studied on the sexual behaviour of male rats. In the initial experiments, male sexual responses were assessed by recording penile erection, licking and grooming of genitals and copulatory movement in absence of females. In the second set, copulatory behaviour was observed by caging males with a receptive female brought into estrus with s. The frequencies of mounting and intromission and latency of the ejaculation were recorded. The drug was found to enhance the orientation of males towards the female by increased anogenital investigatory behaviour and enhanced licking and grooming of the genitals. The extract also increased the ejaculation latency. These findings support the folk use of this plant as aphrodisiac and for the treatment of premature ejaculation.
Among thousands of Salvia species, Salvia Divinorum is rare specie which is found in remote places in Mexico. Salvia Divinorum has been used by Mazatec Indians for healing and ritual purposes for years. By smoking chewing or chewing the leaves of Salvia Divinorum, one can experience psychoactive sensations produced by it. The effects produced by Salvia Divinorum largely depend on size its dose. If Salvia is taken in small dose, it is known to arouse sexual desires.
